BY AMY ASMAN
The California Department of Conservation recently awarded a $337,000 grant to the Southern San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties Agricultural Watershed Coalition to improve water quality in the Santa Maria Valley.
Grant money will go toward creating more watershed groups and monitoring programs, organizing a Land to Sea Tour and Conference, and the development and implementation of Landguard, an enzyme that breaks down pesticides.
According to a press release from the watershed coalition, the Santa Barbara-San Luis Obispo counties grant was the second largest award in the state.
